The factory Ferrari team returned to the top class of the Le Mans 24 Hours last year for the first time in half a century.

The scarlet machines would line up on the front row of the grid on the Saturday afternoon, Antonio Fuoco having taken pole in the #50 499P from team-mate Alessandro Pier Guidi in the #51.

Both cars remained in contention for the majority of the race, until the #50 of Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen lost five laps with a technical issue that required a lengthy repair, ultimately finishing fifth.

The event would then distil into a duel between the #51 of Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi and the #8 Toyota of Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa. The Ferrari only built up the sembling of a decent lead when Hirakawa spun and clanged the barrier with just under two hours to go. It was the Scuderia’s first overall Le Mans victory since 1965, 58 years previously.
