12 Art 1:12 1959 Aston Martin DB4 GT diecast model car review
Published on: 06 January 2025
The other day, we finally received 12 Art’s 1:12 replica of the Aston Martin DB4 GT. We had only been waiting for three years!
The DB4 grand tourer started production in 1958, while the high-performance GT version was introduced the following year, at the London Motor Show in October. It featured enclosed headlights and a thinner aluminium skin, which contributed to a weight saving of 85 kg. The wheelbase was also reduced in comparison to the standard car.
It was under the bonnet where the key differences could be found, however, as the DB4 GT’s engine had two spark plugs per cylinder with two distributors and three twin-choke Weber carburettors. The cylinder heads were also modified, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 153 mph. 75 DB4 GTs were produced, while 19 more found themselves converted into famed DB4 GT Zagatos.
12 Art has modelled the car that was campaigned by Hubert Patthey and Renaud Calderari in the 1959 Le Mans 24 Hours. An engine failure prevented the duo from reaching the end of the race. This is a sealed bodyshell model, which means that there are no unsightly gaping shut lines. The replica measures 34cm in length, and we have just three pieces remaining after fulfilling our customer pre-orders.
