Bugatti has been resurrected on a couple of occasions over its history. It was originally founded in 1909, by Ettore Bugatti. Notable vehicles included the Type 36 and the Type 64, although its single-seater Type 35 racing car was probably its most famous creation during its first iteration. Bugatti ceased operating in 1952, but the marque was revived in 1987 after being acquired by Italian entrepreneur Romano Artoli. The company folded again in 1995, but it had at least added the iconic EB110 GT supercar to its repertoire.

The Volkswagen Group then acquired the Bugatti brand in 1998, and ensured that it remained at the cutting edge of supercar production with the release of the spectacular Veyron, which was succeeded by the Chiron.
