Norev Ford Mustang Fastback 1968 - Satin Green Metallic 1:12 Product Information

Norev 1:12 diecast model of the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback in Satin Green Metallic. Many years ago, when we first heard that Norev was going to make a 1:12 replica of the 1968 Mustang that McQueen drove in Bullitt we were excited. I’m a big McQueen fan, and until quite recently I owned a particularly fine replica of the real thing, right down to the correct De Luxe interior pack roof console. That car was my pride and joy. I should not have sold it! But my excitement was short-lived because the replica that Norev produced was not of the film car. The replica more resembled the car as it was when it was sold by the Kieran family at auction for $3.5 million. Not a bad return given that they had bought it in 1974 for just $3,500! But actually it wasn't even a replica of the car sold at auction. It was actually a bit of a mish-mash; combining the paint finish of the 50 year old car sold at auction, with much of the detailing that pertained to the film car, such as the blacked-out rear panel, and so on.It would seem that the guys at Norev had somehow got it into their heads that the car in the film had run with matted-out paint to avoid camera reflections. Clearly that was not the case. What they were getting confused about was the blacked out rear panel which, indeed, was painted that colour to avoid reflections from the following camera car. In our view, it's a shame. There's nothing particularly wrong with the model's detailing, but you only have to watch the film to see that the film car was painted in the standard, metallic Highland Green. As it is, Norev's replica is niether one thing nor t'other. It's not the car sold at auction. Nor does it resemble in any way the film car. But if you can get past that in the way that I simply can't, then it's a nice enough replica of what Steve's car would have looked like if somebody had turned up on set, and decided to sand all the paint down! If Norev ever gets round to producing this 1:12 replica in the correct paint, I think it would be very popular!
